Frangipani Attar

The plant of Frangipani is found on Asian lands, mostly towards the southern or south east parts. It is botanically known as Plumieria and branches itself from the Dogbane family. It is named Plumieria in the memory of Charles Plumier, a 17th century botanist. Frangipani is also referred by it several common names i.e. Champa, Sacuanjoche etc. This flower undergoes the steam distillation process and extracts the fine quality Frangipani attar. The attar spreads an aroma that resembles the scent of citrus along with pomelo blossoms and can also be described as ‘romantic’. This liquid is generally available in pale yellow colour and is soluble in water. It is popularly used in making leis i.e. a garland for wearing around the neck mostly on Pacific islands. In Polynesian culture women wear this flower either on their left or right ear for revealing their status on relationship. The right ear means seeking one and on left means already in one.
