It is an annual herb belongs to the celery family of Apiaceae. Its Binomial name is Anethum graveolen and sole species of the genus Anethum. This biennial herb is originally from Southwest Asia. This particular herb grows up to 1 meter (3 feet) with slender hollow stems and alternate. It has soft delicate 3.9-7.9 inches long feathery leaves. The leaves of this herb are slightly broader than the similar fennel leaves. The flowers of this plant are white to yellow in colour and in small umbels 2-9 cm diameter. Moreover, seeds are 4-5 mm long and 1 mm thick. This herb is having the carminative property of relieving gas Dill oil is also considered as an essential oil mainly extracted from the seeds, leaves and stems of the dill plant by steam distillation process. This oil is pale yellow in color with a watery viscosity as well as having grass like smell.
This oil consists of Carvone, Umbelliferone, Myristicin, Apiole and dillapiole.
